Xerox Supports Open Formats
I was recently asked if Xerox supports open formats, specifically Microsoft’s efforts in standardizing OOXML, so I thought I'd offer my thoughts here.
By freeing the document content and semantic structure from its container, standardized document formats take a great step in enabling interoperability amongst applications, users and enterprises. We believe these standards can co-exist where each serves a valuable role in the business document life-cycle.
As the world's leading document management technology and services enterprise Xerox supports standardization of all document formats, e.g. Office Open XML [OOXML], Open Document Format [ODF], XML Paper Specification [XPS], PDF 1.7, etc.
As it relates to OOXML, Xerox is already a member of ECMA international, supporting Microsoft’s XPS standardization efforts. We are a member of Technical Committee TC46. We can easily join TC associated w/ OOXML; this may require Microsoft’s nomination / recommendation for us. This way, we can also support these efforts as a voting member.
